Hey there 👋
We are thrilled to announce the release of our latest report, The Equity Record UK, which strives to push the discussion on diversity in venture capital beyond gender and ethnicity to include demographics such as socioeconomic background.
To the more than 300 investors who filled out our survey, making this report possible - thank you!
We’d love it if you could help us spread the word on LinkedIn. Here’s a sample post for you to share.
As VCs, we play a crucial role in driving innovation and economic growth (8 of the 10 largest companies in the world have been venture backed at some point in their journey). Because of that, it is of the utmost importance for us to embrace diverse perspectives and unique visions of the future. Especially those that have been historically overlooked, resulting in unequal opportunities and hindering overall economic progress.
In this latest report, we delved deep into demographics, focusing on gender, ethnicity, and notably, socioeconomic diversity. But we didn't stop there. We took a groundbreaking step by assessing how UK VCs themselves perceive their progress in fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within their funds.
These findings offer a comprehensive view of inclusivity across various lines within VC, shedding light on the industry's challenges in achieving diversity.
But don’t just take our word for it, check out the coverage in Sifted.
Key Findings
🌟 100%+ growth in ethnic demographic representation across Asian, Black, and Mixed-ethnicity VCs in the UK since 2019, despite this, women of colour in investment roles remain scarce 🤔
Zero change in gender demographics since 2019 🙄
71% of VC Partners have been privately educated 🎓 vs. 7% of the UK population
Women are 2x more likely to be in non-investment positions as compared to men 🧐
56% of ethnic minorities do NOT ‘feel their fund is contributing towards a more inclusive technology ecosystem’ vs 75% of men and 60% of women who do 🤯
We believe inclusion has the power to unlock new possibilities, enabling venture capital to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape, and we know you do too.
